My name is Zytia Simmons, pronounced Zy-tee-yah, but many people call me Tia — and you can too.

I am originally from South Florida, and I am a true lover of flamingos, fried conch, cozy spaces, and meaningful moments. Some of my favorite childhood memories were spent surrounded by family, friends, creativity, and community. One memory that still stands out is playing in my grandmother’s closet.

To me, that closet felt like another world — a treasure hunt filled with beauty, imagination, and possibility. There were hats, purses, gloves, shoes, and little treasures tucked away that made everything feel special. We thrift-shopped, repurposed, created, and made the best out of what we had. My sister and I would redesign clothes, make accessories, and live fully in our imagination. Looking back, I realize those early years taught me creativity, resourcefulness, and how to see potential in what others might overlook.

I dreamed of going to fashion school and even explored that path, but life eventually led me in a different direction. I knew I wanted more opportunity, more stability, and a way to create a better future for myself. Service was already part of my family’s story. My grandfather, older sister, uncle, and cousin had all served in the military. While they served in the Air Force and Army, I chose the Navy. Funny enough, I originally thought I was going to join the Air Force, but when the Air Force recruiter was not available, the Navy recruiter saw me — and the rest was history.

Growing up in South Florida gave me a deep appreciation for home, community, culture, and possibility. I lived on a dead-end street where my grandfather owned homes across from one another on the lake. Those homes were filled with laughter, family, neighbors, shared meals, memories, and moments that shaped how I view home today.

We knew our neighbors, and everyone knew what home you came from. People did not just move into the neighborhood — they became part of the rhythm of the community. Even hurricane season carried memories of togetherness, with neighbors checking on one another, sharing what they had, cooking, laughing, and making the best of the moment.

Those experiences taught me that home is never just a structure. Home is belonging. Home is stability. Home is legacy. Home is where people gather, grow, heal, dream, and build.

I left home in 2009, one year after graduating from Boyd H. Anderson High School, and began my journey in the United States Navy. While serving, my goal was simple: keep going. Through 14 years of honorable active-duty service, I gained powerful lessons, meaningful connections, and a deeper understanding of what I was capable of.

My military experience taught me discipline, attention to detail, problem-solving, accountability, and how large operations work together. It also gave me the opportunity to connect with people from many different backgrounds and understand the importance of service, communication, and trust.

During my time in the Navy, I committed myself to learning process improvement, Lean Six Sigma, operations, and systems. I later pursued my Bachelor’s degree in Business Analytics, which I will be completing in October, and I plan to continue my education by pursuing an MBA in Business Contracting. After separating from active-duty service, I worked as a contractor supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Information and Technology. That experience strengthened my understanding of systems, data, service, structure, and the importance of helping people navigate complex processes with clarity.

In 2014, I purchased my first home in Chesapeake, Virginia. I was proud, excited, and felt like I had truly stepped into adulthood. My real estate agent made the process clear and simple, and I still remember how supported I felt during that experience.

That moment stayed with me because it showed me how important it is to have someone knowledgeable, patient, and honest guiding you through such a major life decision. I also learned that homeownership requires more than simply paying a mortgage. It requires education, preparation, protection, and a clear understanding of the responsibilities and opportunities that come with owning a home.

There has been no better time than now for me to pursue real estate. Looking at homes has always been one of my favorite things to do. I have always enjoyed visiting open houses, studying homes that need renovation, estimating repairs, researching loan types, learning how investor's structure real estate deals, and understanding how neighborhoods develop their own unique cultures but most of all, there is a very strong educational piece that everyone must have when considering homeownership no matter the circumstance, foreclosure, divorce, approaching rentals, when to contact attorney, understanding the importance of title insurance and how failure of these things can seriously impact your health, confidence, and faith to evolve again.

Real estate, to me, is more than buying and selling property. It is about stability, education, legacy, safety, opportunity, and helping people make informed decisions that can shape their future. As a real estate agent, I need to make sure the clients that need to be fully informed are my clients are fully informed of the processes they will be going through, capable of understanding the processes that we will be going through and why. My clients who are familiar with the home buying process and desire strict streamlined execution on the transaction have that experience as well, no matter the client type, my goal is to deliver the desire of my client to ensure their needs are provided for when managing the transaction from desire to closing and beyond
